Advanced Mechanical Engineer - Cable Design

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:Department of Defense Top Secret security clearance is preferred at time of hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Advanced Mechanical Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:Performs design and development in such areas as mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, thermodynamic, or heat transfer for production, transmission, measurement, and use of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines and/or machinesLeads development of strategic tasks or small to mid-size projects by applying engineering and organizational knowledge and expertise to achieve technical goalsProvides technical input to Project or Engineering Management in linking project-related strategy to achieve business goalsMonitors the project from initiation through delivery including planning and directing schedules and monitoring budget/spendingUnderstands and interprets the technical, organizational and process aspects of the task assigned and can relate them to the technical needs of the overall project or organizationPlans and executes small to mid-size projects or task elements within larger projects, organizations, or for groups of projectsResponsible for the completion of assigned engineering tasks or mid-size projects within budgetary and scheduling guidelinesDirects, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering tasks or small projects within area of assigned responsibilityActively uncovers technical and organizational risks and ensures they are included in risk mitigation plansParticipates in development of program strategies and teaming strategies as they relate to the assigned projectParticipates in the development of executable project plans on proposalsMentors lower labor grades in mechanical principles and project performanceCreative, innovative responsibilities requiring advanced decision-making skillsDemonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutionsWorks on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factorsCarries out other tasks, not listed, assigned by supervisorTravel may be requiredSecurity clearance may be required KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Highly proficient and able to perform all responsibilities associated with the position Grasps and applies new information quicklyHighly proficient ability to handle more complex assignments Must be highly proficient with solid modeling CAD tools to create mechanical models and accompanying drawingsShows initiative on assignments, exercises independent judgment and professionally executes projects with little directionHighly proficient with technical standards, manufacturing/fabrication methods, government/industry standardsPrefer highly proficient knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) toolsDemonstrates high proficiency in writing technical papers and proposalsDemonstrates history of leading an engineering project and teamPREFERRED DEGREE TYPES AND EXPERIENCE:
Previous cable or umbilical design experience, with examples
CableCAD or equivalent experience in designing cables
OrcaFlex or equivalent experience in analyzing/predicting cable behavior
Strong knowledge and experience with electrical properties related to power delivery
Strong knowledge of industry standards, manufacturing processes, and materials
Cable loading, winding experience a plus

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
